May is National Community Action Month

May 1st kicked off the 2021 National Community Action Month. Rooted in the Civil Rights Movement and established by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, the Community Action Movement “connects millions of children and families to greater opportunity, transforming their lives and making our communities – and our nation – stronger.” As part of this movement since 1965, York County Community Action Corporation is one of 1,000 plus Community Action Agencies nationwide that serve others through programs such as Head Start and Early Head Start, Energy Assistance, Weatherization, WIC, Health Services, and a multitude of other programs, services, and initiatives designed to help children, adults, and families overcome poverty and chart a course toward financial empowerment.

National Community Action Month is an opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate the impact that Community Action made in the past year. And, although the last 12 months presented a number of unprecedented challenges, Community Action agencies nimbly adapted to the circumstances to ensure that the needs of our participants, staffs, partners, and volunteers were met. To learn more about the impact of our agency, please follow our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) throughout the month of May for features that include Mission Monday, Transformation Tuesday, Impact Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, and Fact Friday, among others.
