Maine Governor’s Director of Opioid Response, Gordon Smith, spoke at a joint meeting of YCCAC’s Nasson Health Care and Sacopee Valley Community Health Center staff in the Downs Conference room at Nasson Health Care in Springvale on July 18. Director Smith outlined the Governor’s policy priorities in addressing Maine’s opioid epidemic, including increasing treatment options, implementing harm reductions measures, eliminating stigma and engaging in prevention activities. He took questions from the group, which consisted of doctors, nurse practitioners, social workers, behavioral health clinicians and clinical support staff. Following Director Smith’s presentation, the group participated in a clinical education session on medication assisted treatment for substance use disorders led by Dr. Noah Nesin of Penobscot Community Health Care.
