GATHER Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program

The Growing Access to Healthy Eating Resources (GATHER) Project, a program of York County Community Action Corporation, has tailored Wholesome Wave’s Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program™ in an effort to meet the needs of area adults with chronic, diet-associated health conditions and food insecurity by providing fruit and vegetable vouchers and monthly nutrition education programming over a 6-month period. GATHER has partnered with Nasson Health Care, Hannaford Supermarket, and the Sanford Farmer’s Market to bring this opportunity to Sanford. Health Care Providers at Nasson Health Care are enrolling eligible participants into the program.

GATHER participants receive a set of vouchers that can be used at the Sanford Hannaford or the Sanford Farmers’ Market. Participants can then pick up their next month’s vouchers at an upcoming GATHER nutrition education event. These events include a farm tour, farmers’ market tour, movie night, SNAP-Ed Ten Tips classes, and more! Jenny Schultz, GATHER Project Coordinator, has been doing an amazing job providing exciting educational opportunities to participants. Check out the photo of the farm tour at Jenny’s farm, Maple Moon Farm!

To enroll in the GATHER Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program please talk to your Nasson Health Care provider to see if you are eligible. For more information on the program, please contact Jenny Schultz at 324-5762 ext. 2976.
