YCCAC provides free tax preparation through a partnership with the IRS and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
People who generally make $67,000 or less
Persons with disabilities; and
Limited English-speaking taxpayers
IRS-certified volunteers will help prepare basic Federal and State tax returns. Our tax preparation volunteers will also help determine if you are eligible for special tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or Disabled.
2025 Tax Preparation Information
For the 2025 Tax Preparation Program, we are scheduling in-person appointments on Saturdays only in February, March and April. We have a limited number of appointments for eligible taxpayers which includes:
Households with a COMBINED total income of $67,000 or less
Individuals with disabilities or limited English speaking taxpayers
Those who qualify for Federal Tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Care Tax Credit.
For York County residents who receive Social Security income only, and do not need to file a Federal Tax Return, we can provide assistance in filing for the State of Maine’s Property Tax Fairness Credit over the phone. You can contact our Outreach staff to schedule a time to do this by calling (207) 459-2899, or emailing Outreach@yccac.org.

AARP of Maine To find an AARP Tax Aide site near you, call 1-888-227-7669 or click the previous link. This program provides tax assistance free of charge with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low-to-moderate income. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide and are trained and IRS-certified every year.
Individuals can file directly with the IRS for free using theDirect File Service. Direct File offers guided help for every part of your federal tax return. You can file right from your smartphone, tablet, or computer, and access live support. Live support is available for this service, M-F, 7am-10pm EST.
