If your heating system is not working and you cannot afford to fix it, YCCAC may be able to help. YCCAC works with Maine Housing Authority’s CHIP, which provides grant funds to low-income households to repair or replace malfunctioning heating systems. Priority is given to households that have no heat during the winter heating season. CHIP funds may also be used to repair or replace fuel oil storage tanks and/or chimney liners. Limited CHIP benefits of up to $400 may be available for rental properties occupied by HEAP-eligible tenants.
“A homeowner came to YCCAC because her chimney collapsed and she could no longer use her boiler. Shortly after, she was facing foreclosure on her home. By coordinating with the Foreclosure Counselor and CHIP program, we were able to help our client prevent foreclosure and install a new chimney so she could safely heat her home.”
– Jackie Watson, Director of Energy Services
You may be eligible to receive CHIP assistance if your household is eligible for HEAP and your home is in good structural condition.
