York County Community Action’s WIC Program has swapped out its paper WIC vouchers for eWIC cards—a simpler, more convenient and quicker way for WIC clients to shop.
This transition to EBT, referred to as eWIC, will create an easier shopping experience. WIC families will be able to purchase products over multiple trips to the store rather than purchasing everything at one time during the month. There will also be an opportunity for retailers to implement a “mixed basket” approach at check out—in other words, no more sorting WIC foods from other items at the register.
eWIC cards work the same way as other magnetic card payment options. The card is swiped in the card reader and the food item is deducted from the participant’s available food benefit balance. This will provide more freedom to participants by allowing them to purchase only those items needed at the time without losing any remaining benefits for the benefit period.
York County WIC has clinic sites in Sanford, Limerick, Kittery, Buxton and Biddeford. For more information about York County WIC, please call (207) 459-2942.
The average monthly WIC benefit is $50. There’s no cost to the WIC client, and we are accepting new families all the time. Are You Eligible for WIC Benefits? Find out Here
