The Saco Parks & Recreation Department celebrated Earth Day 2019 with awareness-related activities and events for two weeks in April.
The main event took place on Saturday, April 27, with groups of volunteers cleaning up Pepperell Park, Jubilee Park, portions of the River Walk Trail, Cascade Falls, and Haley Park. After the clean-up, the volunteers were invited to attend an Earth Day Celebration at the Saco Community Center. Some twenty local businesses and nonprofits—including YCCAC—had displays there, and homemade soup and bags of popcorn were available to all.
More than 100 people attended the event, including members of the Saco City Council and Saco Mayor Marston Lovell. Amelia Meier, Community Outreach Coordinator for Saco Parks and Recreation, said she hoped to make the Earth Day clean-up and celebration an annual event in Saco.
