York County Community Action Corporation Receives $125,000 to Address Rental Burden Crisis

The TD Charitable Foundation awards Housing For Everyone Grant to York County Community Action Corporation

York County Community Action Corporation has been named one of 32 recipients of the 15th Annual Housing For Everyone grant program from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank.

York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC) provides health, education and human services to York County residents through programs that include Head Start and Early Head Start, WIC Nutrition, Energy and Transportation Services, and the Department of Economic Opportunity. YCCAC is one of only a few organizations in the country that is both a community action agency and a federally-qualified community health center, Nasson Health Care. This allows the organization to integrate all of its services across departments, to help people lead healthy, secure, and independent lives.

HOME SAFE incorporates and enhances elements from several of York County Community Action’s ongoing Economic Opportunity programs, and adds new educational programs to build the knowledge and capacity of low-income individuals and families as viable and responsible tenants. HOME SAFE will also provide emergency financial assistance to help with back-rent, deposits and other housing-related expenses for people impacted or displaced by COVID.

“York County Community Action Corporation has developed an initiative to help COVID-19 -impacted families and individuals avoid eviction and remain in safe, affordable housing,” said Jennifer Gabriel, Senior Regional Giving Manager, TD Bank. “Being awarded the 15th Annual Housing For Everyone grant is an acknowledgement of York County Community Action’s dedication to ensuring an inclusive recovery from the pandemic.”

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had an immense and disproportionate impact on those most vulnerable, including renters, and that’s why the 2020 Housing For Everyone program focused on organizations working to keep families and individuals who rent in their homes.

“We are excited to expand our housing and outreach work to meet the need for affordable, safe and accessible housing for York County residents,” said Mesha Quinn, Director of YCCAC’s Economic Opportunity Department. “This grant will allow us to incorporate innovative solutions as we believe individuals and families will experience more long-lasting outcomes as a result of having housing and supportive services.”

In total, TD Charitable Foundation awarded $4.9 million for the 2020 Housing For Everyone program, as part of the more than $20 million that TD has allocated to help strengthen community resilience and COVID-19 recovery through the TD Community Resilience Initiative.
