Kennebunk Savings Bank Grant Targeted to COVID-19 Relief

York County Community Action Corporation awarded $5,000 to provide needed aid

York County Community Action Corporation has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Kennebunk Savings Bank to provide relief to York County residents experiencing hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The loss of jobs or reduced work hours from the pandemic, especially as the crisis passes a duration of more than 10 months, has put a strain on households not seen since the recession of 2008. Many families seeking help from YCCAC are first-time clients—people who have never needed to seek outside help until now.

“COVID-19 has upturned households throughout York County, as across our state and nation. Businesses have shuttered, schools closed, jobs lost or work hours cut—and the impact has been most severe on those who can least afford it,” said YCCAC Executive Director, Barbara Crider. “This grant will help deliver essential relief to individuals and families experiencing hardship through no fault of their own. We are grateful for the donation from Kennebunk Savings Bank, and for the many years of partnership with us as we work to keep our communities healthy, vibrant and strong.”

York County Community Action Corporation provides health, education and human services through programs that include Head Start and Early Head Start, WIC Nutritional Services, Energy Services, Transportation Services, the Economic Opportunity Department, and Nasson Health Care.

“We always say that meeting the needs of our community is an ongoing conversation. At all times, but especially in times like these, we value our relationship with York County Community Action Corporation and their skills at quickly identifying the areas of greatest need in York County,” said Bradford C. Paige, President and CEO Kennebunk Savings. “Our friends and neighbors, many of whom may be out of work or have reduced hours, are experiencing food insecurity and housing insecurity. They need to be proactively reached and YCCAC makes that happen. We’re at the beginning of a long road to community-wide recovery and we want our friends and neighbors to know that we are here to support them and that they are never alone in this.”

York County Community Action program offices are in Sanford, Biddeford and Kittery. The phone number to connect to any program or service is 324-5762. You can also find us at www.yccac.org and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
