That’s right—the 5th Annual YCCAC Ceilidh & Silent Auction takes place Friday, November 8th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.at Spring Hill in South Berwick.
Tickets are $15 adult, $8 for the young ‘uns (age 5 to 16), and FREE for the ‘wee ones age 4 and under. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
Why a ceilidh? (It’s pronounced kay-lee; rhymes with ukulele.)
Because it springs from a tradition in which members of a community come together for a night of song and dance, food, drink, storytelling and laughter. A ceilidh, a traditional Irish or Scottish ceilidh, might be held in a church meeting room or a town hall. It can take place in a private home, in a chapel, sometimes even in a garden or field. But the emphasis is always the same: on having fun and being sociable!
And the beauty of a ceilidh is that everyone can take part, young or old, experienced dancers to beginners and even those with two left feet! You can dance or just watch—you will be a part of the experience no matter your place on the floor.
Our ceilidh will feature live music by The Press Gang—“one of those rare bands that are ingenious, driving, thoughtful and yet have great respect for the tradition,” said internationally-acclaimed Irish Guitarist John Doyle. Joining The Press Gang will be Hanz Araki—called an “Irish phenomenon in America.”
The auction, which begins at 6:00 and runs until 7:15, will include more than 30 baskets filled with a combination of restaurant gift cards, certificates for overnight stays at luxury hotels in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, golf outings, theater tickets, sports memorabilia—and much, much more!
Dress for the event is casual—by which we mean, regular street dress, or Scottish kilt and attire. It’s all up to you—wear what you’re most comfortable in. The music and dance, food and drink, and the silent auction can be enjoyed by every member of your family!
Come join us for a truly unique, entertaining, and memorable experience. You’ll meet old friends and make new ones—and maybe even learn a dance step, or a song, or hear a story that touches your heart.
