YCCAC hosts 14th Annual “Super Saturday” Free Tax Prep in Sanford
February 26, 2019
On Saturday, February 9th, York County Community Action Corporation hosted its 14th annual “Super Saturday” Free Tax-Prep services at the YCCAC main office complex in Sanford.
Mesha Quinn, York County CA$H Coordinator, reported that 32 filers were served by 12 volunteers, and that the tax refunds for Saturday’s event totaled over $58,000.
“Our goal is to make sure that all people who are eligible for our tax program are aware of our services and are able to save money at tax time by not having to pay a tax preparer,” Ms. Quinn said.
York County CA$H, a program of the YCCAC Economic Opportunity program, provides free preparation of basic Federal and State tax returns for those with adjusted gross income below $52,000, who have had a “life event”— a major event that changes a person’s status or circumstances, such as giving birth, marriage, divorce, death of spouse, loss of job—or who have participated in YCCAC services in the past. All tax prep services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers. The tax prep volunteers can help determine what special tax credits you might be eligible for, such as Earned-Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
Those who participated in this year’s “Super Saturday” were:
(VITA—Volunteer Income Tax Assistance): Steve Curtis, Dave Warren, Sarah Hutchins, Lindsay Copeland, Carol Copeland and Jennifer Seneres; (YCCAC staff): Mesha Quinn, Meaghan Arzberger, Martha Bresnahan, Danielle Raitt and Theresa Leblanc; and our youngest volunteer, Aiden Quinn (15).
The free tax prep service will run until April 17th. Persons wishing to schedule a tax prep appointment can do so by calling the tax prep line at 324-5762 ext.2718.
