Collins, King Announce Nearly $1.4 Million for Head Start in York County

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that York County Community Action Corporation received $1,389,483 for its Head Start program.

YCCAC greatly appreciates this continuation grant (regular annual funding) to the Children’s Services program.

“Head Start provides children with a strong educational foundation that allows them to grow and succeed,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This important funding will help build an educational foundation for children in York County and provide parents with access to the services they need during their children’s formative years.”

York County Community Action Corporation seeks to alleviate poverty for the people of York County by assisting families and seniors within the community. The organization helps to administer economic stability services such as Head Start, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and Women with Infants and Children (WIC).

Head Start was established in 1965 to promote school readiness and provide a comprehensive array of health, nutritional, and social services to eligible four- and five-year-old preschoolers and their families.  Head Start services include early learning, health, and family well-being.  This funding, which was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funds local agencies that provide Head Start services across the country.
